Social Media is VERY important!

Today, social media is becoming a must-have element in the overall marketing strategy of many companies. More than 90% of marketers use social media in their campaigns. 77% of fortune 500 companies have active Twitter accounts and 70% of them have active Facebook pages.
 
Regardless of their size, businesses can utilise social media to communicate with customers about new products or the launch of a promotion. Unlike some traditional marketing methods, social media allows marketing departments to engage in two-way dialogue with their customers. Instead of pushing out one-way broadcasts, organisations are turning to social media to learn about their customers through meaningful interactions. This does, however, bring both opportunities and threats.

By using multiple platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Google+ and Twitter, businesses can target niche markets and reach specific demographics. Social media also increases the visibility of brands, allowing them to reach untapped markets through the exposure of their content.
 
Facebook has become the largest social network in the world with over 1 billion users. Every day, more and more people are using the social network to share massive amounts of content with their friends, family and co-workers. They’re interacting with old and new connections as well as following their favourite brands products and businesses. People are reading the news, asking questions, sharing experiences and re-sharing content that is meaningful to them. With the roll-out of pages, Facebook has become instrumental to businesses as more of them are using pages to maximise their marketing value and customer engagement.
 
Twitter is an open social network that people use to converse with each other in short messages (280 characters or less) - Tweets. Whether it's sharing breaking news, posting updates about their life or following their favourite celebrities, people are using Twitter to connect with others and to discover new things every day.
 
LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network. LinkedIn houses your professional presence online, allowing people to stay in touch with colleagues and friends, find experts and new ideas, and explore opportunities within a broad network of professionals. Students and recent college graduates make up LinkedIn’s fastest growing demographic. Your LinkedIn profile serves as a standing resume that showcases your expertise, experience, and education. Your profile is discoverable through the millions of LinkedIn searches conducted daily. In order to stay competitive, you can discover insights about other companies, industries, and individuals, allowing you to make better informed career and business decisions.
 
Instagram is an engaging and fun way to visually share your favourite moments with your community. Primarily a mobile social network, you can easily take a picture or video with your smartphone, choose a filter and edit your post, and then share it with your followers.
 
An important note to make: Social Media is not your whole marketing campaign, and is only truly effective when combined with your other marketing efforts. It is a chance for the business to show their personality, and create a community with their market - however if this is not then channelled through events held, promotions ran, adverts created then the efforts of social media are likely to diminish in effectiveness.
