The Month of Food!

Why “The Month of Food” you ask? Well, this month is jam-packed with, not just three national food related days, but five!

We kick-start this exciting month on the 11th with “Eat what you want day”. In today’s fast-paced world, where time is premium, diets have taken control of people who wish to live a healthy life. All of us have some kind of dish or food that they love but have to stay away from because it is not very healthy. This unofficial holiday allows people to take one day from the year and guiltlessly indulge in their favourite foods. How to Celebrate? Eat whatever you want. Pig out on desserts, stuff yourself with delicious food, go into a food coma feasting on rich, yummy dishes. Ever wondered what ice cream would taste like with ketchup? (Nope… Us neither). Today is your day to try it though!

Moving on to the day after (the 12th ) it’s National Donut Week! Now National Donut Week is a special week as it’s where businesses including bakers, coffee shops, offices and educational establishments take part and sell lots of delicious donuts to raise funds for The Children’s Trust. 100% of the funds raised go straight to the charity. Good, aye!

Commencing on the 14th its British Sandwich Week! British Sandwich Week is a week-long celebration of the greatest food to-go and quite possibly the most iconic British culinary staple, the Sandwich. The great British sandwich is such a central item in our psyche and culture that we have more different names for it than Eskimos do for snow! From sarnies, butties and barms to baps, baguettes and sangas, everywhere you go there’s a local term for this icon. Sandwich manufacturers and retailers across the UK all have their own way of celebrating this fantastic food, many offering special promotions and new ranges during the week.

Fun Fact: Britain alone we buy over 3.5 billion sandwiches a year!

It’s a double day too; the 14th of May also hosts National Vegetarian Week! It’s all about eating delicious and exciting veggie food. So, if you want to be healthy ready for the summer, all you have to do is find loads of mouth‑watering recipes and tips to help you make the most of it!

Last but certainly not least, it’s National BBQ Week (starting on the 28th). For the 22nd year running the nation is heading to the depths of the garden shed, removing the plastic cover and welcoming back into the garden the beloved barbecue, for National BBQ Week. Up and down the country, restaurants, pubs and homes will all be encouraged to fire up the grill, filling the air with the smells and sounds of summer. There’s very little that can’t be cooked on a BBQ from the traditional English breakfast to a whole turkey dinner! Why not make 2018 the year to really make the BBQ part of your summer menu. Keep it simple and colourful with fruit and vegetable skewers… And it’s not just about the grilling! BBQ’s are a great way to get together with friends and family. Add some wine or ice-cold beer, good music and good company, what better way to celebrate National BBQ Week.
